1. Which idea is behind the Internet Genesis project? The idea is simple: by selling 1,000,000 pixels at $ 1.0 each we want to try finance our cost-intensive non-profit projects of which we have 14 at the moment. Thus the idea for the website "Millionpixels.org.uk", which consists of 10,000 blocks of 10 x 10 pixels each, was born. The square grid consists of 100 x 100 blocks. You can buy as many pixels as you wish - at least as long as they are available (see the live statistics on the start page, below right). If you buy a few pixels you can add an image/ad/logo of your choice into the "pixel space" corresponding to the size of the purchased pixel space. The use of obscene or insulting images is not allowed. The pixels you buy will be displayed permanently in the "pixel space". The site will not be changed. The revenue from this project will also be used to ensure the live time of this site for at least 30 years. A kind of Internet History is thus created. In the long term, we believe, the money invested into the pixels will provide a better return than any advertising entries into boring directories. Play your part in writing a piece of Internet History! 2. Is the project a joke or meant seriously? The project is meant absolutely seriously although the idea may appear like a joke in one regard or another. It is really true, we are selling here pixels for $ 1.0 each and we are a little bit proud about this idea!Top 3. How did the idea develop? It was a mild summer's night at the end of August 2005 around midnight (when else should one have such ideas entering one's head), as we were contemplating how better position our websites on Google without having to buy ads with the numerous expensive directory operators. During the brainstorming the following terms went through our heads:Pagerank, Backlinks, BLOGS, #+$$, own directory, %%&, Google, Yahoo, MSN, Link-Exchange, $(=?!, DMOZ, SEO ... Suddenly, as everybody already wanted to go home in frustration one of us had an idea. We all considered this idea unique and creative. It was capable to win people over. It was an idea which, after extensive thought, would encourage others to invest in it. Talking about money is always difficult, but this idea offers value at comparatively little investment and is not subjected to fluctuations. The value of the investment increases constantly with time. Price crashes are highly unlikely, even if several copy cats will try to jump on this band wagon But there is a trademark protected original with oldest start date and the best survival chance. We vouch for that as politicians would phrase it. 4. What happens with the revenue from the project? The money will be used to support non-profit projects which we initiated and of which there 15 at the moment (compare case studies). In detail there are costs for domains, hosting, administration, content management, design, research, trademark registrations and legal fees.Should we reach the million pixel target, and should there be a surplus, so will we certainly invest this into new ideas. So, please watch our "pixel space"! 5. Why should I/we participate in the Internet Genesis project?5.1 Because you will be able to place an image with a description and a link to your website on the Million Pixels site which has the potential to be visited and seen by millions of people.5.2 You can become the owner of a piece of "Internet History". 5.3 Even well known large companies should not be missing on this site. Just show presence - your competitors are doing it too! Top 6. Why can't I buy single pixels?Surely, it would have been interesting for individuals to be able to buy single pixels. In practice, however, this is barely possible - neither technically nor for those who would have to attempt to point the mouse to a single pixel. Furthermore, the site would then only consist of a colourful confusion of pixels. We have, therefore, decided to sell the pixels in blocks of a minimum of 10 x 10 pixels. This size can just be sensibly presented and navigated. Furthermore, we considered that more likely firms would be interested in the offered "live long" advertising space and would be prepared to buy as many pixels as would be needed to display the company logo or a descriptive graphic. Of course, groups of people can get together to reserve "their" joint memory block. Top 7. How long will the website be online? The website is planned - as far as humanly feasible - to remain online for a minimum of 30 years, if possible forever. The idea was to operate a website which is durable and unique, on the forever changing Internet for 30 years and possibly forever. You can be part of it.Notice: We are not liable for down times of the ISP and/or the carrier. Should it be confirmed that the ISP will have to close operations, we will transfer the domain "millionpixels.org.uk" to another ISP within seven days. For you nothing changes. 8. Is the project unique or are there copy cats (rip-offs)?No, it is typical for the internet that ideas are copied. But we believe that we have protected our rights adequately and that our site - as promised - will stay online for 30 years. The "plagiarists" and "idea robbers" cannot guarantee this for their sites because we will protect existing trademark rights for "Million Pixels".In contrast to copy cats whose sites only have mere comedy character we are offering the possibility of trustworthy and effective advertising space which, over time, will be more recognisable and will gain more value and advertising efficiency. We wish "band wagon jumpers" a lot of luck. We recommend to them to at least create their own layout and their own texts on their websites. Top 9. Do I/we have to fear to be associated with unethical advertisers? No, we will only accept ethical advertisers (firms, organisations and
private individuals) whose images and links Copyright © 2005 Infochannel Group - All Rights Reserved. |
